Makan-makan Perth: Batavia Corner Restaurant

At the corner of Albany Highway and Dane Street, is where this simple Indonesian restaurant is located. We normally passed by this reastaurant whenever we go to any other halal restaurants along the highway. Not aware of it's Halal until it's being recommended by our friend of us.

So, we went there for a try. hehe..

Menu..many options to choose from- chickens, beef, lamb, seafood and also duck!

Maryam and the Halal logo in front of the door

This time we ordered oxtail soup, fish rica rica with steamed rice. Looks simple but it's worth trying. Price? One meal costs about $10-$15 depending on what you order. Maryam ate a lot because she really loves soup!

Lunch for the day! Alhamdulillah

School Holiday Activity 3:

During school holidays, all story-telling sessions and other usual library will be replaced with other activities. The activities normally only caters the students while the usual library activities during school term are for babies until 4 years old.

It is quite interesting because children got the chance to spend their holiday doing beneficial activities; not only offered by the library but also most of the majority shopping complexes.

This is what we found at Thornlie Square. Cupcake Decorations and Mug Painting besides the usual free twisted balloons and face painting for kids.

We got the chance to go for Mug Painting here at Thornlie Square during the end of term school holiday last year. Full entry can be read here =)

Maryam is not interested to get her face painted, so we normally omit that one. She would rather interested in queuing for a twisted balloon. She always had an idea in choosing the balloon. Sometimes she asked for a butterfly, puppy, giraffe etc.

It's fairy in the middle of a shopping complex!

This time - it's a ladybug bracelet

Close-up, can be worn as a bracelet..hehe
We didn't got the chance to go for the Cupcake Decorations since it clashes with our pre-booked library activity. Besides, we're unsure about the cupcake ingredients, so it's best to just omit that activity too.

Will story about the library activity next time insyaAllah! =)

Her new collections!

She's been asking for a dollhouse for her birthday. Browsing through the toy stores, be it online or offline; I don't think spending that much is a good idea and worth it since I know she will only play it just for a couple of months and then, hilang dan lupa. So cari toys lain.

But, we managed to get it for her Alhamdulillah! And a very reasonable cost!

Dora dollhouse; but no dolls..

Presenting the little pony collection

The little ponies pun naik ferris wheel..
Now, she's enjoying the little ponies at her highest peak. There are 13 of them, mak bapak, anak semua ada. Worth buying Alhamdulillah.

Salmon oh Salmon..

It's a lucky day Alhamdulillah!

Other people went for beach fishing in Albany, successfully caught more than 10 giant fishes!
Alhamdulillah, rezeki sungguh kami dapat merasa! Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah!

It's SALMON!

Salmon is a great and considered as healthy food due to the fish's high protein, high omega-3 fatty acids and also high vitamin D content (wiki). That's why it is quite expensive in the market. The last time we saw in the seafood market is about $30/kg! Pheww!

Approximately half of the fish.
Can u imagine the original size; the rice cooker is just for comparison =)

Due to its large size, I found it very difficult to cut it into small pieces. The middle bone is quite thick and have to use a small saw to cut it through.

Cut to smaller pieces - 3 dishes

It has been succesfully divided into 3 packets; which means I need to think of 3 different salmon dishes! Hoho..

Not thinking of cooking the salmon in curry or normal fish dish, so I'll update on the menu later insyaAllah =)

School Holiday Activity 2: Medieval Games

We registered for this activity about a week before the school holiday begins. The first activity that we tried to book in at Can. Vale was fully-booked and it was quite dissappointed actually since the other session was quite far in Kenwick. So, we never had the chance to join one of the activities being offered. But, Alhamdulillah, managed to squeeze in for this activity ie Medieval Games at our nearest library.

They started off with a short story-telling session as usual, which is about a dragon in the house. Yup, this time around-the theme is about medieval: that's why there were about fairies, dragons etc. There were quite a large crowd of children ranging from the age of 4 to 10 years old. From what I can see, most of them are at about Maryam's age where majority of them are between 4 and 6 years of age.

The exciting part started soon after that. They were making a dragon! Creativity of young children - we got to see many different colourful and attractive dragons around the room. Enjoy the photos of Maryam and their friends!

Colouring, cutting and pasting based on your own creativity

In process

Touch-up a little bit of here and there =)

Tadaaa! This is her final masterpiece!
(Will story about the blue thingy in the next entry insyaAllah)

Once finished, she tried another game which is "Where's the Tail?" It's just a simple game of where you need to paste the dragon's tail while you're blindfolded! First time for her and she's having fun of it, Alhamdulillah!

Maryam in action!

She's doing the activity quite fast, so didn't have the time to snap a nice photo of her doing that except for the above..hhuhu

Next is, throw the ring to the bottle. Let the photos below do the talking =P

Have a go dear!

Yes, I did it!

All three activities above were successfully finished within an hour, Alhamdulillah! Can't wait for the next activity next week, insyaAllah. See u soon!

School Holiday Activity 1: Baking Session

Maryam got a new baking set for kids during her last birthday celebration at home. She kept on begging me to bake cupcakes and ginger breadman since the baking set does includes a mini recipe book of those recipes. I've to politely refuse her request since I've just baked 2 cakes last Friday! Penat pun tak habis lagi..huhu

But I couldn't bear her second request last Wednesday. Since most of the ingredients are ready at home, off we turned on the oven for the baking session together. This time around is to bake vanilla cupcake! And now, she's ready to start baking...

Full attire.. checked!

Mixing the ingredients well

Stir to ensure all are mixed well, including the base using the spatula

Close up..

Now, ready to put in the oven! Yeay!

Complete with the pink buttercream icing. Nyum nyum!

One for me!

Now, 11 left!
Alhamdulillah we're glad to had our relatives to our cosy home that night. If not, am not sure how long would it take just to finish off the cupcakes. Hubby doesn't really into desserts unless there's cheese as one of the ingredients. Maryam pun berapa banyak sangat mampu dia makan. So, it will end up I'm the one who will eat it the most sebab tak sampai hati tengok terbuang dan membazir. That's why I prefer to bake anything that I feel like eating when weekend comes, so that I can bring some for our friends for any weekend gathering.

Masak-masak Perth: Caramel Cake

We baked this cake quite sometime ago, just before our last visit to Malaysia.

The cake tastes really nice, has a very soft texture. In addition to the taste, is the stunning and interesting colours which made it really tempting! Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah. Although the caramel topping was a bit failure for the first timer like myself..hehe..since the sugar for caramel wasn't enough. It didn't cover the base tin well. Quite dissappointed until forgot to take the photo of the spoil topping..eheeh

Just before being sent-off to the oven!

After: Loveeee the colour!

The excited little girl with caramel cake
Hoping to bake this cake again soon insyaAllah.

Another birthday celebration!

Maryam was telling me that she's sad and was asking me on why nobody came to our house on her birthday. I told her that her birthday is on Wednesday, a working day. That is why we didn't invite our friends to come over and celebrate. Her friends cannot come since their parents need to work etc. What made her more upset was that her daddy wasn't at home too! He was away in Melbourne for work!

We thought that by celebrating her birthday at school can make her happy and that would be enough to hold just one celebration. She was actually looking forward to meet her Malaysian friends, I guess - Harraz, Dzakirin, Ayra, Adam, Amani etc etc..So, there goes another celebration at home last Saturday.

Alhamdulillah, all went well. Most of our friends came although it was a long-weekend (Good Friday-Easter Monday) which was a good time for holiday with family. Furthermore, the school break has just started. All in all, everything was good. Alhamdulillah!

We had tomato rice with Ayam Masak Merah and acar, noodle soup, red velvet with cream cheese frosting cake, apam senyum, fruit cocktail jelly, chicken nuggets and also the chocolate birthday cake.

Trying to blow the candle from this side...
Yeay!

Alhamdulillah! Thank you uncles and aunties for the lovely birthday presents!

Last Summer Event for 20121

As I flipped through the local newspaper, I've come across this poster. So I think why don't we go and spend for at least an hour or two to see what activities are they offering, and the most important thing is just to cheer the 4 year old Maryam! Why worry, as it is FREE! I love everything that is free..hehe =D

The poster advert in the local paper

Nothing much that I can think of the activities that they will have based on the advert. So, I was a bit of undecided whether to go or not actually. Kang tak pasal-pasal buang masa la pula kalau takda aktiviti yang best. Huhu..

But hubby said, just go and have fun. And yes, we did!

She got the chance to play the mini golf! First time for her - she got 9 holes to complete in a round!hehe..

Trying her best to ensure the ball goes into the hole

Yes! I did it!

Had a donkey ride..

And also experience to use the water hose with a fire fighter!

Looks like the young man is having more fun than her!

Whoosh whoosh

And also she got to do some painting..

Painting a car

She had a great time there Alhamdulillah although it doesn't feel like summer as the heat has gone away gradually now. It's started to rain daily now..Autumn and winter is comingggg! =)
